Representing C Ward, Cr Gorey replaces Ken Trewin after his resignation from the chambers in April this year. Cr Gorey was officially declared the new councillor on Wednesday 15 July, 2009. He also attended his first Council Meeting held in Moulamein on Wednesday and was welcomed by staff and councillors, including Mayor Rod Chalmers. ‘It’s great to welcome Neil to the chambers and we look forward to his contribution.’ ‘Now that we have our new Councillor on board I believe we will continue to be a well equipped team to represent the community and deal with the ongoing challenges that arise,’ Cr Chalmers said. Cr Gorey, who operates a successful farming business, has lived in the Barham area for most of his life and felt the time was right to run for a seat on Council. ‘I’m really looking forward to playing an important role in the chambers and giving a new perspective on matters affecting the area.’ ‘Our Shire and our residents will continue to be faced with issues and tough decisions, particularly during these times, but I am ready to join with my fellow councillors and focus on the needs of the community and be a strong advocate for our district,’ Cr Gorey said.
