Can Assist: Cancer Assist NetworkRecently the Community Health Centre was visited by ladies from Can Assist Balranald Branch of the Cancer Patients Assistance Society of NSW, which has it's head office in Sydney. Can Assist is a registered charity which has been providing assistance to Country people for over 50 years throughout NSW. Can Assist provides a structure to real communities, such as ours, to fund raise in order to provide assistance with accomodation for rural patients undergoing radiotherepy and/or chemotherapy and to provide direct financial assistance to persons affected by cancer whilst they are in the community. The Balranald Branch comprises of local community citizens who are committed to caring for community members, with cancer, not only in Balranald but in the whole district, including Euston, Tooleybuc, Kyalite and Moulamein. The money raised by the branch is used to directly assist your community. Can Assist treats all information on persons wih the utmost confidentiality. Identity and personal details of persons assisted are not made available to the general membership. Services provided can include financial assistance towards oncology related pharmacy items, wigs, accommodation, household expenses, travel, home aides, electricity and other expenses. Moulamein Community Health Committee and staff are eager to become involved in this fantastic organisation, which helps provide real assistance to families in need at a very distressful time. You can provide your support simply by collecting a membership application form from the Health Centre. Membership is $10 annually and $5 for Senior Citizens. This is tax deductible and you will receive a quarterly copy of the Can Assist newsletter.
